What's a good way to make a home/entry page for your forum? For example; if I go to Forumansion.com, it would have a decorated page with top posters list, ect. Though in the middle their was a well designed button that when you clicked it, it took you to the home page. And next to it there was another one but this one required a password and it took you to a VIP Forumansion forum at a completely different URL.

Its not really a forum anymore if you have a homepage; it draws away all the attention away from the actual forum. Also, SEO wise, its bad, and splash pages are from the 90's.

I've seen sites lately that have homepage are getting more attention and members than ones without one. I think it's because it's more towards a professional level/look.

I would say that it does really depend on the genre of the forum, as if you have a website/homepage for your site, then it does make things look a lot more professional.
